History
The idea
for Love In the Name of Christ was conceived in 1977 in
Holland, Michigan, as a way to encourage churches to become more
engaged with the poor and to enable a greater number of Christians to
put their faith into action.
Locally, Love INC began in 1994 when four concerned
Christians met together to brainstorm how to better meet the needs of
Bozeman and Gallatin County residents. From those early
discussions, public meetings were held and a Development Committee was
formed. Later that year, a Love INC affiliate agreement was
signed with the national Love INC
organization.
Officially forming with a Board
of Directors, a part-time Executive Director, and a volunteer
Clearinghouse Coordinator, Love INC opened for business in July,
1995. Since then, our local office has responded to over
22,000 requests for assistance.
In 1996, we had 15 partner
churches and held our first annual Plant the
Seed Dinner. Today, Love INC enables 41 partner churches and their volunteers to share Christ's love by
providing the necessary link between
church volunteers, social service agencies and our neighbors in need.
